What is the best time of year for a private safari in Kenya?

The most popular time for a safari in Kenya is June to October, when the Great Migration is in the Masai Mara National Reserve. As the vast herds cross the Mara River, they create one of the most iconic wildlife spectacles in the world. The downside is that lodges are busier, prices are higher, and private safari vehicles are hard to come by. If you’re looking for a more private Kenya safari, travelling outside of the migration peak can actually be better. You will still find excellent resident wildlife in areas like the Mara Triangle, including lions, leopards, elephants, and rhino, but with far fewer vehicles around. The landscapes are greener, photography is more atmospheric, the birdlife is outstanding and sightings often feel more intimate because you’re not competing with migration crowds.

 

Which Wilderness camps in Kenya are best for a private safari?

Wilderness owns one camp in Kenya, Wilderness Mara. Wilderness Mara is one of only two camps in the region that allows for exploration of both sides of the Mara River.
