I love this itinerary as it’s all about contrast. The city and culture of Cape Town is paired with some of Botswana’s best safari destinations. Wilderness DumaTau and Vumbura Plains deliver two very different yet equally wonderful wildlife experiences. A helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta is the perfect end to this trip with a fabulous view of the landscape.

Day 1 - 5

One&Only Cape Town

LocationCape Town, South Africa

Set in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront with views towards Table Mountain, the One&Only Cape Town puts you in the middle of everything the Mother City has to offer, without sacrificing an ounce of seclusion. The resort feels like its own world within the city, private waterways separating it from the bustle outside. Rooms and suites are the largest in Cape Town, many with private balconies looking out over the marina, the mountain, or both. The reimagined spaces blend natural materials with a residential warmth, and the overall atmosphere sits somewhere between urban hotel and private retreat. Nobu, the only outpost of the acclaimed Japanese-Peruvian restaurant in Southern Africa, is reason alone to stay. Beyond it, ROOI's fire-led South African grill and the poolside Isola round out a dining offering that few city hotels can match. The spa, set on its own island within the resort, uses ESPA products and houses a Bastien Gonzalez studio. Insider's Tip: For the best of both worlds, book a table at Nobu early in your stay and save a long lunch at Isola for a slower afternoon by the pool.

Exploring the Okavango Delta

Learn more

At Wilderness camps in the Okavango Delta, twice-daily game drives form the heart of the safari experience. Early mornings see you heading out in open 4x4 vehicles, when the light is golden and predators are often still on the move. Guides and trackers use their expertise to follow the clues of the bush including fresh tracks in the sand and distant alarm calls to lead you to wildlife sightings. After a stop for coffee and snacks in a scenic spot, you return to camp for a relaxed breakfast or brunch. Later, as the heat eases, afternoon drives bring the chance to see more but beyond the vehicle, there are also various other ways to discover the Delta. Depending on water levels, you might glide silently along reed-lined channels by mokoro, head out by boat in search of hippo and waterbirds, or even cast a line for catch-and-release fishing. Guided walks reveal the smaller wonders of the wilderness while optional extra scenic helicopter flights offer a bird’s-eye view of the landscape. Together, these experiences ensure your time in the Okavango is as diverse as the landscape itself.
