I can’t recommend this journey enough! Traveling throughout the country is truly unforgettable, from scrambling up the dunes at Sossusvlei to exploring remote river valleys and spending time with the Himba. Every moment feels like you're stepping into a completely different world, and it’s the kind of experience that stays with you long after you leave. I already find myself wanting to go back!

Eleven luxury desert suites expanded to offer improved airflow, each have a private plunge pool, private rooftop area for sundowners, "African tapas" and other rooftop dinners or stargazing. In terms of colour and form, Wilderness Little Kulala blends seamlessly into the desert landscape with interiors reflecting the environment. Activities make the most of the solitude and stark beauty of the Namib Desert, with nature drives and guided walks revealing the majesty and mystery of the Namib Sand Sea. Exploring Sossusvlei with Wilderness comes with the unique privilege of exclusive access through a private gate, allowing you to be among the very first to reach the towering red dunes. Climb iconic Dune 45 or Big Daddy before descending into the pans of Deadvlei, where ancient camelthorn trees stand stark against the sand. After returning to camp for a leisurely brunch, your day can continue with guided nature drives, keeping an eye out for springbok, oryx, and ostrich, or on foot with interpretive walks that reveal the desert’s smaller wonders. For those seeking adventure, quad biking and fat biking provide an exhilarating way to explore the world's oldest desert. Evenings bring a slower rhythm, with sundowners and stargazing in some of the clearest night skies on Earth.

The name “Skeleton Coast” conjures up romantic images of desolate beauty, and the proudly remote Wilderness Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp in the Kaokoveld does not disappoint. The dry bed of the Hoanib River supports a thin green ribbon of vegetation and the wild beaches of the Atlantic coast are within reach, with their noisy seal colonies and eerily quiet shipwreck remnants. Eight large en-suite tents (including one family unit) and the main area provide shady viewpoints, while nature drives into the surrounding area reveal a wealth of desert-adapted wildlife. Desert-adapted lion and brown hyena may also be glimpsed in this vast but far from lifeless landscape. Insider's Tip: On a stay of three nights or more, a coastal excursion to The Skeleton Coast is included. Usually involving a drive down to the coast and a flight back to camp, to see such a diverse area both on the ground and in the air.

Wilderness Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp reveals one of Namibia’s most dramatic and remote wildernesses. Days begin with game drives across stark valleys and dry riverbeds, where desert-adapted lion and elephant can occassionally be seen as well as giraffe, oryx, springbok, and Hartmann’s mountain zebra. The camp’s private concession also allows for night drives, when the desert’s elusive nocturnal creatures sometimes emerge including porcupines, aardwolves, and bat-eared foxes. Guided walks bring you closer to the fine details of the desert including tracks written in the sand, ingenious plants, and the smaller creatures that miraculously survive here. For those staying three nights or more, a highlight is the full-day excursion to the wild Skeleton Coast, where towering dunes, windswept beaches, and the rusting remains of shipwrecks tell the story of nature’s raw power.

Flight • 03:00h
You will be taken by light aircraft from Wilderness Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp to Wilderness Serra Cafema.

Set amongst shady trees on the banks of the Kunene River, Wilderness Serra Cafema is one of the most remote camps in southern Africa, its Portuguese name originating from the mountains that dominate the northern skyline. Guests fall asleep to the sound of rushing water, while by day they explore one of the driest deserts in the world. Activities here are varied, including boating (water levels permitting), walking, viewing breathtaking landscapes, as well as carefully guided quad-bike excursions that tread lightly on the dunes. In this isolated region, the Himba people continue their nomadic, traditional way of life and when in the area, guests have the opportunity to meet them and learn about their lifestyle and traditions. Insider's Tip: Most authentic Himba cultural experience in all of Namibia!
