September at Busanga Bush Camp

Wilderness Kalahari Plains Botswana Wildife Lion Full Moon

Witnessing the Blood Moon eclipse in our clear African night sky, with the lions roaring not far from Busanga Bush Camp, was indeed breathtaking, and surely the highlight of the month.

Spring in the Busanga Plains

Temperatures have been warm throughout the days, though more comfortable at night. That’s when the magic of Mother Nature would come into play. Yes, there were days when the outdoor temperatures would reach 35° C or 36° C, but in the evenings, there was a remarkable temperature transformation. From nowhere, the breeze would pick up and eventually the leaves started harmonising, and the temperature would drop from the mid-30s to 21°C in a matter of seconds.

This safari season has been remarkable, with rare and fascinating wildlife. I remember last season, on maybe only two or three occasions, that our guides would come across a cheetah sighting. But this season the wildlife has not disappointed our guests in anyway at all, and we’ve seen all the cats – big, small and everything in between.

Has anyone ever wondered what the cherry on top would be in terms of sightings at BBC? Surprise… this month we saw a honey badger! It might not be the biggest in the neighborhood, but it fears neither man nor any creature.

Special guest moments

Our guests are consistently mesmerised by the bush brunch set up that we surprise them with. Not knowing what we have planned, it’s always ‘boom’ after a morning game drive! Just add a nice chilled glass of Mosi, which is one of our best-selling locally brewed Zambian beers, or a glass of Chardonnay, to top it off.

This is my eighth time visiting the Kafue, and my fifth time visiting BBC. This is my favorite camp in all Africa. Thanks to Dawid, Pyben, Willard, Winnie, Chiyambi and all the staff and chefs. – Ken, CT – USA.

Staff news

As we are almost at the end of our season, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our guides, as well as our guests, for their tremendous efforts, and sharing sightings.

October at Busanga Bush Camp

Wow, that time has finally arrived, though none of us thought it would come this rapido, as the Italians would say. Fast! Summer, the Green Season, is here.

Weather

Around the Busanga Plains it has been extremely hot – the kind of heat that makes you question what to do with yourself. Then we received a few showers last week, and we have renewed hope for new beginnings again.

Sightings

It was amazing to see this lioness doing a peekaboo move on the vehicle. And one thing is for sure, the guests never thought that she would get that close. (The guests were completely safe, as the lions see the outline of the vehicle rather than the individual passengers.)

This season had been the best season ever, with many repeat guests. But what made it even more special was the opportunity to witness the wild dogs in action!

Our guests were mesmerised by the bush brunch setup that happens as a complete surprise towards the end of their morning game drive. They have no idea what we have planned, then boom! A feast in the middle of nowhere. Add a nice chilled glass of Mosi, one of Zambia’s best-selling locally brewed beers, or a glass of Chardonnay to top it off, and then we head back into camp for a siesta.

This season we have had great feedback, not only on our guest review forms, but also online, i.e., TripAdvisor. This is one of our most appreciated guest comments
