Rain, remarkable encounters & unforgettable memories at Sabyinyo

July is traditionally a month of sunny days, crisp mornings, dusty landscapes, and misty conditions, with little to no rainfall. This year, however, nature had a delightful surprise in store for us. Refreshing rain showers arrived, both in the middle and towards the end of the month, bringing a welcome change to the landscape.

The rains breathed new life into the vegetation, supported wildlife, and enhanced the natural beauty that surrounds us. The result was a particularly beautiful July – one filled with fresh air, lush scenery, spectacular views, and memorable moments for our guests and our team.

A warm welcome to Volcanoes National Park

We were delighted to welcome wonderful guests from all corners of the world throughout the month. Their Sabyinyo journey began with a warm and memorable reception, accompanied by the vibrant rhythms and graceful movements of our traditional cultural dance performances at our arrival area.

From the moment they step onto the property, guests are captivated by the beauty of the lodge and its breathtaking surroundings. The journey from the parking area to the main lodge offers its own special experience, with scenic pathways, charming stairways, and beautiful views at every turn.

Many guests chose to spend time outdoors, enjoying delicious meals and refreshing drinks while taking in the spectacular scenery. With every meal, every conversation, and every quiet moment, the surroundings offered a gentle reminder of this extraordinary place we are privileged to call home.

Into the mountains: a gorilla adventure

Mornings began early, with guests rising full of excitement and anticipation for their gorilla trekking adventure.

The pleasant weather provided wonderful conditions for the experience, and for many, the highlight was finally encountering the magnificent mountain gorillas – the extraordinary creatures that make this region so special.

Standing in the presence of these remarkable animals is an experience that words can hardly capture. The encounter created magical moments and unforgettable memories that our guests will carry with them for a lifetime.

Stories, smiles & afternoon discoveries

Our afternoons are just as special as our mornings.

Returning from their gorilla trek, guests arrive filled with excitement, enthusiasm, and fascinating stories to share. Over lunch or while relaxing around the lodge, conversations naturally turn to their experiences in the forest, and their admiration for the local communities who coexist with, and help protect, these incredible animals.

After lunch, guests can choose to slow down and enjoy a well-deserved nap or continue exploring through activities such as birdwatching, nature walks, and village visits. These experiences offer wonderful opportunities to connect more deeply with the area's landscapes, people, culture, and wildlife.

Golden hour at Sabyinyo

As the day draws to a close, around 6:00 pm, guests gather in the main area for one of our favorite moments of the day – Happy Hour!

With a refreshing drink in hand and the spectacular sunset unfolding across the surrounding landscape, guests relax, play games, exchange stories, and make new friends.

There is something truly special about watching the day fade into evening while surrounded by good company, laughter, and breathtaking scenery. At Sabyinyo, these simple moments often become some of the most treasured memories of a stay.

Staff news – teamwork that makes the difference

Throughout July, our team members across all departments remained dedicated to delivering exceptional service to our guests.

Through strong teamwork, commitment, and attention to detail, our colleagues worked tirelessly to maintain the high standards of hospitality for which Sabyinyo is known. From the front of house to the back of house, every department played an important role in ensuring guest comfort, satisfaction, and seamless daily operations.

Their passion, professionalism, and willingness to go the extra mile continue to make a meaningful difference to our guests' experiences.

Community news – Clean cooking for a healthier community & a healthier forest

SACOLA (Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association), in partnership with Wilderness Sabyinyo, continues to promote environmental conservation and improve community livelihoods through sustainable initiatives.

This month, SACOLA distributed 120 gas cylinders and gas stoves to community households, following last month’s distribution. The initiative promotes clean cooking, reduces dependence on firewood, and helps protect forests surrounding the park.

The programme is particularly supporting families preparing to relocate to the newly established model village, where homes are equipped with modern cooking facilities. Beneficiaries appreciate gas cooking for being faster, cleaner, and more convenient, while providing a smoke-free and healthier environment.

Through such initiatives, SACOLA continues to empower communities, improve livelihoods, and contribute to the long-term protection of the environment.
