The project was completed between early November and mid-December 2025 and was initiated following a collaboration proposal from IXM, a Swiss mining company with operations in Namibia. CITW identified WJD Cloete Combined School – a long-standing partner school since 2008 – as the beneficiary of the development. The project, valued at NAD1.4 million, addresses a critical shortage of classroom space at the school.
‘At Wilderness, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for long-term conservation and community resilience. By supporting schools like WJD Cloete, we are investing in future leaders who will shape both their communities and the natural heritage of Namibia,’ said Agnes Kerii, Wilderness Namibia Impact Manager.
The new infrastructure is set to significantly enhance the teaching and learning environment, enabling more structured, efficient, and supportive educational delivery for both learners and educators. The initiative aligns with Wilderness’ broader Impact strategy, particularly its focus on education, and reinforces CITW’s long-standing commitment to youth empowerment, leadership development, and sustainable community upliftment.
The official inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Honourable Dr Emma Kantema-Gaomas, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Hardap Governor Riaan McNab, regional councillors, and representatives from Wilderness Namibia and IXM.
‘Infrastructure such as this is not just about buildings – it is about creating opportunities, restoring dignity, and ensuring that every child has access to a safe and conducive learning environment,’ said Minister Kantema-Gaomas, underscoring the importance of investing in education as a foundation for national development. ‘We want to ensure that WJD Cloete Combined School grows. Our vision is to see this school having Grade 10, Grade 11 and even AS level in the future,’ she concluded.
The event also featured a tree-planting ceremony led by senior representatives from Wilderness Namibia, symbolising growth, sustainability, and long-term investment in the community. In a vibrant display of gratitude, learners and teachers performed traditional songs and dances, celebrating the milestone and expressing their appreciation for the new facilities. The performances reflected the pride and optimism shared by the school community as they look toward an improved learning future.
The completion of the classrooms and storage facility marks another landmark in CITW Namibia’s ongoing efforts to support education and community development across the country.
