Mana Pools National Park comes alive once more as Wilderness Ruckomechi and Wilderness Chikwenya prepare to welcome guests for the 2026 safari season, open from April through November. Set along the Zambezi’s fertile riverine banks, both camps offer privileged access to one of Africa’s most biodiverse and visually striking landscapes.

Elephants at the Zambezi river

‘Mana Pools is alive with possibilities every year,’ said Dean Morton, Wilderness Zambezi Managing Director. ‘While this wilderness is always rich in wildlife, the recent rains have brought an even greater abundance this year. With our dedicated guides and camp teams in place, 2026 promises a season of unforgettable encounters and deeply immersive safari experiences.’

Set against a backdrop of woodland and mopane forests with expansive river vistas, Ruckomechi delivers a safari rooted in authenticity and conservation excellence. The refreshed landscape is already delivering exceptional game-viewing opportunities, with lion, leopard and wild dog frequently sighted, alongside impressive elephant herds congregating along the riverbank and nearby pans.

Exploration unfolds across both land and water, from guided walks and game drives to river cruises, canoeing adventures and catch-and-release fishing – each offering a distinct perspective on this remarkable environment. Ruckomechi comprises 10 spacious en-suite tents, including two family units, thoughtfully positioned beneath a grove of albida trees near a favoured elephant crossing. Signature touches – a riverside pool, fire deck under the stars, open-air ‘bath with a view’, and the elevated Star Bed at Parachute Pan – add moments of quiet magic to a stay. For those seeking additional privacy, Little Ruckomechi, set a few kilometres down-river, offers an exclusive retreat with three beautifully appointed tented suites.

Further east along the pulsing riverine belt, Wilderness Chikwenya offers a complementary Mana Pools experience at the confluence of the Sapi and Zambezi rivers. This private conservation area on Mana Pools’ eastern boundary is wild, exclusive and bristling with iconic African wildlife. The camp features seven elegant tented suites, including two family units, shaded by albida and mahogany trees, ensuring a haven for photographers and nature lovers alike.

In preparation for the season, Wilderness recently concluded an intensive week-long guides’ training programme, underscoring its commitment to interpretive excellence and the highest standards of field guiding.

Beyond the guest experience, Wilderness continues to strengthen its long-term conservation and community partnerships through its flagship Impact initiative, Children in the Wilderness (CITW). From 24–27 March, just prior to opening, Ruckomechi will host immersive teacher training for 16 Eco-Club educators and mentors from neighbouring Hurungwe District. The programme emphasises interactive environmental learning, equipping participants with practical skills and first-hand exposure to wilderness areas to enrich conservation education in their classrooms.

By seamlessly combining exceptional safari hospitality with meaningful conservation and community investment, both camps stand ready to welcome guests for another unforgettable safari season in Mana Pools.
