May is summer in Rwanda

The month of May 2025 was truly special for Wilderness Bisate and Bisate Reserve — a time of positive transitions, fresh ideas, and meaningful progress. As we moved easily from the rainy season into the warmth of summer, our team remained focused on one goal: enhancing every guest’s experience. This month brought growth, not only in nature, but also within our services and team, all aimed at making our guests’ stays more memorable and meaningful.

Season of change: From rain to sunshine

May marked a gentle farewell to the rainy season and we welcomed the sunny, golden days of summer. The landscapes surrounding Our Bisate Concession became even more lush and vibrant, a true feast for the eyes. Our guests enjoyed the ideal blend of cool breezes and warm sunshine — the kind of weather that adds a magical touch to morning walks, great meals, and peaceful sunset views. It was a beautiful reminder of how nature sets the perfect stage for unforgettable experiences.

Renewed traditional offerings

In our ongoing commitment to blend innovation with tradition, we've refreshed our culinary and entertainment offerings to celebrate Wilderness Bisate’s rich cultural heritage.

Our kitchen has introduced a delightful array of dishes, thoughtfully crafted using seasonal ingredients and local flavors. These new additions aim to tantalise the taste buds of our guests, offering them a genuine taste of our culinary traditions. Furthermore, our evening entertainment has been reimagined to be more interactive and engaging. Guests are often invited to immerse themselves in the rhythm and spirit of traditional dance, creating memorable experiences that connect them with our cultural roots.

These moments also provide our staff with the opportunity to share stories from days gone by — tales of family gatherings and traditions passed down through generations. Gathered around the fire, before the era of social media, these stories foster a sense of community and allow us to learn from one another. These thoughtful updates, though modest, bring joy and authenticity to every meal and shared moment, enriching our guests' experiences and deepening their connection to our culture.

Weather favouring our reforestation project, especially at Bisate Reserve

The favourable May weather was ideal for our ongoing reforestation efforts. Trees planted during the rainy season are now thriving, standing strong and full of life. Even more special was the opportunity for guests to take part in some of the planting activities, creating lasting memories while contributing to our planet. This environmental progress not only strengthens the local ecosystem but also enhances the natural beauty surrounding our lodge — a gift for both guests and generations to come.

Staff trained to keep you safe

On the Bisate Concession, guest safety is naturally a top priority. This month, our dedicated staff completed a refresher course in first aid. The training included hands-on practice with real-life emergency response scenarios, ensuring our team is well-prepared, confident, and able to respond swiftly if needed. These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to not just hospitality, but responsible care and readiness at all times.

Wilderness Rwanda cross-pollination training

Another exciting highlight in May was our participation in a cross-pollination training with Wilderness Rwanda. This enriching exchange allowed our team to share knowledge, learn hospitality best practices, and gain new perspectives on sustainability, guest engagement, and team development. The experience was both eye-opening and inspiring, helping us continue to raise our service standards and deliver even more meaningful stays to our guests.

Thank you for being part of our story

As May comes to an end, we feel incredibly grateful. Every guest who visits Bisate Concession becomes part of our journey — inspiring us to grow, innovate, and serve with heart. With nature as our backdrop and our guests as our motivation, we look forward to many more months of connection, culture, and care.

The team has a born talent of hospitality – we feel this is an inherently Rwandan trait, but it is perfect at Bisate! This place rises (and falls) with and by the hand of its people. A & J – UK

Paid attention to the details! From gaitors, to drinks and room care, to night attendees & special surprise gifts & our private dinner! You thought so we didn't have to. Love what you shared about your communities and future plans.  B, J, S & T – CANADA
