Wilderness Sabyinyo newsletter – July 2025

From sunrise to sunset, the Virunga Mountains were alive with different colours against the misty skies. The softness of the rain in the area was special, and despite the muddier-than-expected paths, our guests took it all in their stride, turning soggy boots into treasured memories. We saw lifelong friendships formed over shared sightings, group treks turned into bonding moments, and plenty of reasons to smile, no matter the weather.

We hosted guests from around the world, mostly families who were enjoying their summer vacations, but perhaps the real star moment for them was when the children got to meet with fellow children in the community, playing together and bonding – creating memories that we’re sure they’ll cherish for a long time. And as our days wrapped up with a glass of wine and singing together while dancing around our firepit, we couldn’t have asked for a better peak season month.

We’re excited to announce that our helipad refurbishment is officially complete and approved for use.

While it wasn’t a dramatic makeover, it was a solid and much-needed upgrade. Our Back-of-House team got down to business, digging deeper, levelling the surface, and smoothing everything out to ensure the landing pad is safe, functional, and ready for helicopter arrivals and departures once again.

This was no small feat. What began as an open patch of ground has now transformed into a sleek, guest-ready landing zone – a game-changer for those arriving or departing by helicopter. Whether you're flying in for an off-the-bucket-list adventure, or onto the next quest, we’re now ready to welcome you arriving from the skies.

More than just a practical addition, the helipad reflects our commitment to continually enhancing the guest experience, making Sabyinyo more accessible and seamless.

July was a month where the Sabyinyo team truly shone. With the lodge buzzing during peak season, it took seamless co-ordination, quick thinking, and genuine care to ensure that every guest experience was nothing short of exceptional … and the team more than delivered.

It was also about growth.

Our masseuse joined hands with the team at sister lodge Wilderness Bisate for some collaborative training, exchanging skills and learning new techniques to elevate our wellness offerings here at Sabyinyo. It was a beautiful opportunity for cross-lodge learning, and we’re excited to bring even more relaxation and rejuvenation to our guests as a result.
