With over 23 years of experience with Wilderness, Grant Woodrow has an in-depth knowledge of the company’s operations and the ecotourism industry as a whole, offering immense value and support to the company’s Business Development team to build sustainable conservation economies in Africa.
Grant joined Wilderness in 1996 as an Assistant Camp Manager of Xigera in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. He then moved on to manage various other camps in both the Okavango and Linyanti concessions and was directly involved with the development of the world-renowned Mombo Camp in 1999.
Grant worked in various senior operational positions before being appointed Managing Director of Wilderness Botswana in 2007. He played an instrumental role in developing a strong culture of training, service and hospitality, and was promoted to Managing Director of the Botswana Group, including Wilderness Air and Northern Air Maintenance in 2011. In this role, he managed the largest operational company in the Wilderness Group and has remained committed to maintaining relationships with Government, as well as being directly involved with local communities and all tourism-related operations within Botswana.
In 2015, he was appointed Wilderness Chief Operating Officer (COO), managing the Group’s southern Africa operations, moving across to Business Development in 2018.
With a BSc in Zoology and an Honours degree in Wildlife Management, Grant has always had a passion for wildlife and the environment; this led to him developing Wildernes Botswana Environmental Division in 2000. In this role, he had the opportunity to manage various ecological projects, including the reintroduction of rhino into the Okavango Delta. His work on the company’s environmental minimum standards set a benchmark for future standards within the tourism industry in Botswana.
