As winners of Namibia’s Leading Tented Safari Camp in the World Travel Awards for the third consecutive year, Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp (HSC) is again recognised for its excellence. Munya Maposa is the General Manager at HSC, and appreciates both the unique offering of the Skeleton Coast, and the importance of a dedicated team to keep delivering award-winning guest service.

Munya joined Wilderness Safaris in 2016 as an Assistant Manager at Little Kulala. He was promoted to Acting General Manager the following year, then moved to Damaraland in 2018, and in 2019 was promoted to his current role at HSC. “These camps all have unique attractions associated with them. At Little Kulala, it’s the Sossusvlei dunes, at Damaraland it’s the landscapes and community, while at Hoanib it is the amazing and often unexpected wildlife”, says Munya. “While they are all different, there is a common thread that runs through them: the people in the camps. The staff work hard and sacrifice a lot, and always provide service with a smile. As a team we are able to rely on one another, which is a theme that runs throughout the Wilderness Safaris camps”.

With a Higher National Diploma and Honours Degree in Hotel Catering & Tourism Management from the School of Hospitality & Tourism in Bulawayo, Zimbabwean-born Munya worked as a Guest Service Supervisor for Carnival Cruises prior to joining Wilderness Safaris. He has always wanted to explore remote areas, and it was Wilderness Safaris’ dedication to conservation and community empowerment that drew him to Namibia. “I wanted to be part of their efforts to conserve nature”, he explains. “I have also always been driven by a team that clicks well, and an environment that allows everyone to enjoy their work”.

“It is a great honour to receive this recognition and we thank the World Travel Awards and all those who voted for Hoanib as Namibia’s Leading Tented Safari Camp”, Munya acknowledges. “We are beyond thrilled, and look forward to the return of tourism to this extraordinary desert retreat – knowing that guest journeys to this remote north-western region of the country make a massive positive impact to conservation and community empowerment”.
