Wilderness Rwanda empowers communities

In 2024, in partnership with Wilderness Sabyinyo, our community association, SACOLA, launched a kitchen garden and mushroom farming project to combat malnutrition in local communities. The mushroom farming program has been a great success, providing families with a valuable source of protein and essential vitamins. Thanks to this initiative, there have been no recent cases of malnutrition in the surrounding villages, marking a significant achievement in improving health and wellbeing.

The project also offers small-scale farmers the opportunity to grow and sell mushrooms, providing them with a sustainable source of income. This collaboration continues to have a positive impact on both nutrition and the local economy, helping create lasting change in the community.

At SACOLA, we are committed to supporting local communities through a range of impactful initiatives that improve livelihoods, empower individuals, and promote sustainable development.

Poultry Project for Widows of the 1994 Genocide

This project provides local widows with the resources to establish poultry farming businesses, offering them financial independence and a renewed sense of purpose. With a total investment of RWF6,500,000, SACOLA has provided 300 chickens, feed, and training, and plans to expand this to 1,500 chickens in the near future. Wilderness Sabyinyo has committed to purchasing eggs from these women, ensuring a stable market for their products and helping them thrive.
