Wilderness donates food hampers to Botswana’s Sankoyo community

Wilderness Safaris Botswana has donated food hampers and hand sanitisers worth P27 000 to the Sankoyo community based in the Santawani Concession in the south-eastern Okavango Delta.

Like many communities, the Sankoyo have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to village elder Kgosi Gokgathang Moalosi reaching out for help.

With assistance from Chris Laider of Orezone Drilling we were able to transport these much-needed supplies to the 80 families in the village. This donation was accepted with open arms and will go a long way to ensuring the Sankoyo Community is able to stay safe and at home during this difficult time.

Wilderness Safaris Botswana Operations Manager Neil Steedman presented the food parcels to a very grateful Kgosi Moalosi, while respecting the social distancing regulations.

“Community is one of Wilderness Safaris’ core values, and we are glad to be able to assist all these families, not only during these difficult times but for the many years we have been working together”, noted Neil.

“COVID-19 has affected everyone in the world and it’s a time whereby we need to pull together and assist each other”, added Kgosi Moalosi.

Kgosi Moalosi is looking forward to sharing these food supplies with all the families in the village and is very grateful to the dedication Wilderness Safaris has shown throughout the years.

“We are all looking forward to a continued partnership in the uncertainty of a post-coronavirus world”, said Neil. “This year marks 10 years of our Sankoyo community partnership. We are proud to note that Wilderness Safaris will continue to offer its support to local communities".
