Choosing a safari within one of Wilderness' private concessions – designated private areas within a national park, or just outside it – offers unparalleled exclusivity and a personalised experience… exactly what you want on a honeymoon.
A safari on a private concession with Wilderness means that there is a limit to the number of people allowed in the area at all times. For example, the Jao Reserve, where the architectural marvel of Wilderness Jao is located, is limited to allow no more than 22 guests on its 60,000 hectares (that’s 148,000 acres, which is bigger than the Hamptons at 55,000 hectares, or 136,000 acres). Combine this with the opportunity to book a private vehicle and you are more likely to encounter more rare wildlife and sightings of lions than you are to pass fellow travellers.
Additionally, private concessions allow for activities that may not be permitted in the public areas of national parks. Think of night drives, where you can spot nocturnal predators, guided walking safaris, tracking animals on foot and discovering the smaller wonders of the bush, and judicious off-road game viewing, ensuring you can get closer to wildlife sightings without being necessarily restricted to designated tracks.

Chitabe - amazing stay
"We had an amazing stay at Chitabe end of March 2023 (2 nights). The wildlife density in the area is incredible - we had multiple leopard, cheetah and lion sightings and also saw a large pack of wild dogs. Our guide Phinley was very experienced and had a ton of knowledge - he did a fantastic job. The vegetation / landscape in the area is also great and very varied - from the open floodplains around camp, to the Gomoti plains area to the slightly more wooded areas (where we also had great sightings). Chitabe camp itself is also very beautiful, with a pretty pool and bar area and extremely attentive, warm camp staff. We felt very welcomed and everyone made sure that all expectations were exceeded".
