2023 - A wild year with Wilderness

As we gather around the fireside with family and friends this December, we here at Wilderness are toasting to another incredible year. A year of elephantine proportions. Of unforgettable moments, majestic creatures, conservation success stories, and beyond all, awe-inspiring humans.

This year saw us following the migration

Where we awoke to wildebeest outside our windows, and we followed in the footsteps of great herds, without the roar of other vehicles around. Thanks to our new mobile set up at Wilderness Usawa, a first for us on the plains of Tanzania’s Serengeti.

We were given the privilege of

naming a baby gorilla

Testament to our ongoing conservation and tourism efforts in the region, where Wilderness Sabyinyo also recently underwent a refurbishment.

Around Africa, we saw

pangolins, caracals and leopards

Some even hiding out above camps or walking on planes. We also followed a supermom cheetah and her five cubs at the recently renovated Wilderness Chitabe Lediba. And an incredible sighting that saw 11 cheetah in one sitting. That’s a lot of spots!

We heard the stories of

wildest animal encounters

Which included a mischievous mob of mongooses, a grumpy gorilla in the rain, and some wild dog-kudu chaos at a waterhole. And alongside those unbelievable sightings we discovered that a Wilderness guide may just have the most thrilling job in the world.

We welcomed some

incredible photographers

They wowed with pictures a plenty and we watched from near and far as they brought Africa’s wildest, untouched places to life on our screens, inspiring others to plan their own adventures.

countless guests and families

And were honoured by the love shown in return, resulting in many awards – while at the same time knowing that wherever you decided to go we would get you there safely and securely, thanks to 10 years of Wilderness24.

Four decades ago, our journey began in Africa.​ Today, we are proud to offer safaris in over 60 camps in eight African countries with a range of thrilling activities, and an unwavering objective to help to protect 6 million acres of land – and counting. As we celebrate our 40-year anniversary, join us in looking back to a time when we first forged our way in some of Earth’s most untamed wilds.

We found a new

partner in purpose

And together with Sealand, we launched a brand new range of handmade, upcycled travel gear. We also shook hands with countless other friends, both old and new, with common goals of protecting lions, rhinos and much more.
