At Chikwenya, we continue to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to our purpose: driving authentic and sustainable ecotourism in Zimbabwe.

 

Over the years, we have remained true to the people and wildlife of Zimbabwe, that land between the Limpopo and Zambezi rivers, of savannah mosaic, of roaring torrents and warm people.

 

 

 

 

There’s a place on the Zambezi, in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park, which must be one of the most beautiful sites for a camp in southern Africa. In front lies a floodplain often dotted with big game, and beyond that the broad Zambezi River, with a backdrop provided by the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment.

 

 

 

 

Chikwenya opened for a short time last year – Anton Kruger visited, and called it “mesmerising” – and that was just one of the superlatives heaped on this place, where shafts of dappled sunlight stream through the canopies of giant trees, and imposing elephant, eland, and buffalo walk quietly while the wind whispers through the trees.

 

 

 

 

 

Chikwenya is all about the sheer beauty of the area, which is laid in “tidy horizontals” – the sandbanks and grassy floodplains, then the sweeping river, ending with the mountains of Zambia. This is echoed in the camp’s layout on broad wooden decks and large open areas set in the shade of the riverine forest.

 

 

 

 

Our purpose – our commitment to ecotourism – is expressed in the physical beauty of the camp’s surrounds that we are helping to conserve, as well as the wildlife of the area.
